Fifth Annual Health and Wellness Fair set for Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Severna Park High School

            Anne Arundel County Public Schools, in partnership with Anne Arundel County Government, Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, Anne Arundel Community College, Anne Arundel Medical Center, and Baltimore Washington Medical Center, is co-hosting a free health and wellness fair on Saturday, May 17, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Severna Park High School, rain or shine. 
At 8 a.m., there will be a 5K run around the high school campus, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Thereafter, there will also be a fun fitness walk around the high school track, and participants will receive a free pedometer, T-shirt, and frisbee while supplies last.  Free health screenings (including foot, back, cholesterol, blood pressure, vision, and anxiety/depression), refreshments, drawings, favors, literature, and information from a variety of community partners such as the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging, Anne Arundel County Department of Health, Aetna, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, CVS Caremark, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, and area fitness centers will be available in the gymnasium.  The Maryland Department of Transportation and Buster the School Bus will be on hand to promote safety.  There will also be activities for children, including face painting and a moon bounce.  Adoptable pets can be viewed in the SPCA’s mobile unit.  With personalities from 1430 WNAV radio providing lively commentary and music, there will be a fun-filled morning of activities.  The month of May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.  The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County passed a resolution in 2005 recognizing the month of May for this initiative.
